Here are the "before" pics...
I've removed the existing window. There is a lintle already in place, so I don't have to worry about a header. I will make vertical cuts with a circular saw on both sides of the block to get as clean of a break as possible for the new opening. Demolition is always fun...
Of course, having a helper with a shovel is always fun too! :)
Now I've added framing, and installed the door! I've boarded in the small opening to the left of the door, because the back of the house will eventually get new siding, and the siding crew can cover right over this and trim out the door.
The rest of my work will be inside, making a new bathroom, installing a support beam, blocking in the garage overhead door, furring out and insulating the existing block exterior walls, and finishing off the project. I'll post more pictures as I go through the project...

An important part of this is to make sure the threshold and sides are sealed as well as possible. I've used silicone caulk because the newer silicones will never dry out and always stay flexible. I've sealed under the treated sill plate as well as under and around the doors threshold.
